🕷 Make Your Own Halloween Bowl: A DIY Spooky Candy Bowl with Resin Bugs

🫗 Pouring with Epoxy

What you'll need:

Amazing Casting Resin

✅ Small Bug Molds

✅ Pipettes

✅ Protective Gear (gloves, mask, etc.)

✅ Heat Gun

✅ Bowl or Vase

✅ Masking Tape

✅ Super Glue

✅ Spray Paint

🪄 Instructions:

Step 1: Gather your materials

Start by collecting everything you need: Amazing Casting Resin, black spray paint, super glue, and some silicone bug molds (or any creepy-crawlies of your choice). You’ll also need safety gear like gloves and goggles, as well as small items like pipettes, which will help with precise resin pouring.

Tip: Pipettes are key to avoiding overflow in tiny molds and ensuring all the intricate details are filled perfectly.

Step 2: Mix and pour your resin

Now it’s time to start the fun part—casting! Amazing Casting Resin has a short working time of only two minutes. So, mix in small batches, around 10 milliliters, to ensure you can work quickly and efficiently. Use a pipette to fill tiny bug molds. This will help avoid overflow and make sure you capture the smallest details, such as legs and antennae.

Tip: Go slowly and don't rush the pouring process. Tiny details will stand out in the final result, and using too much resin can create a messy finish. Be patient!

Step 3: Demolding the bugs

After about 10 minutes, your resin bugs should be fully cured. Test by gently tapping them with a stick—if they feel firm, you’re ready to demold! Carefully remove the bugs from their molds. If you used the pipette correctly, your castings should come out clean without much excess resin to trim.

Trick: If you didn’t use the pipette, you may end up with excess resin or “flashing” around the bugs. This will require trimming or sanding, so take your time with the pipette!

Step 4: SHAPE THE BUGS

Heat the resin bugs using either a heat lamp or a heat gun. This will soften them slightly, making it easy to bend them into shapes. For example, you can wrap the bugs around the edges of a bowl or vase. Once they’re flexible, place them on the surface you want to decorate.

STEP 5: ATTACH AND PAINT

Glue each bug to your project using super glue. Once they are securely attached, it’s time to bring everything together with a coat of black spray paint. Before you spray, consider masking off any parts of your object you want to keep paint-free (like the rim of a bowl). Give your project an even coat of paint, and allow it to dry fully.

Tip: Use tape to secure the bugs in place while the glue dries, making it easier to multitask without having to hold them in position.

Step 6: Fill with candy and enjoy

Once all your resin bugs are securely attached and the paint has dried, your spooky candy bowl is ready to shine! The black-on-black bug design adds a perfect eerie touch to your Halloween decor.

Whether you fill it with candy for trick-or-treaters or use it as a conversation piece, your DIY resin bowl will stand out. This versatile project can easily be adapted to fit any occasion or theme, making it a fun and creative way to personalize your home decor.
