Preguntas frecuentes

🌈 Agregando color a Alumi-UV

It takes for ever to dry

"I applied it on my jigging head and evertime I touch the jig is wet I have tried epoxies before and they all dries fast not this one"

The best!

"I’ve tried numerous uv clearcoats and they all end up sticky. This clear is completely tack free!"

Matt P. (5/5)

So far so good. I

"So far so good. I have only done a couple lures so far. Drying time takes longer than expected even under UV lamps. Time will tell as I do more projects with it."

Keith T. (3/5)

"I love how simple it is to use this resin, uv cured in minutes. I was using kbs diamond clearcoat before this and i hated waiting a couple of days for the clearcoat to cure. 5/5 alumi-uv simple to use and will buy again."

Perfect results!!

"I’m restoring some crank baits that have caught many bass, but beat up from years of fishing. The Alumi-UV worked flawlessly. My brother had used a UV activated before so he advised that the curing time and process makes a difference in final hardness. I ended up cooking these with my uv light over night. Finish is smooth and flawless. I think it will be a sufficient hardness, while being resilient as well. I left my very beat up lure unrestored as far as paint. The clear coat should protect it from further restoration. My only recommendation would be maybe use a bottle with a wider opening. So far the lures I’m refinishing have fit through the mouth. If I had to use a different container I fear id be wasting stuff in that container. Perhaps I’ll try brushing for bigger lures. Thx, great product so far."

Quoc P. (5/5)

Struggling with it!!!

"I do fishing lures and always have used dip and hang method, but I thought I would try and save time. I bought a curing box with lights , brushed on , and it’s been a learning experience process. It seems tacky and I have tried alcohol wipe method. I have tried a different set of lights still same results. Not sure what is happening , but ordered another set of lights and going to see if it just needs more lights."

William H. (5/5)

Learning curve

"Trying different methods of using this product on air brushed fishing lures. . . . . . frome brush application to dip methods. The product works well but a quality uv light is a must to cure."

Zeb J. (4/5)

Not purchasing again

"I do maybe a dozen lures at a time. The original version of this product worked great. Nice clear coat and no bubbles. I purchased this new version and now it orange peel dries. Ruined half my work and I have no idea if will smooth out with a second coat. Not buying this no more. Amazon has one that is much better."

Scott H. (2/5)

Not happy

"Firs time user, 4 oz bottle only half full. The lures that I have used it on, have taken 15 to 20 minutes to cure. I am know looking for another brand,"

Bob D. (1/5)

Bottle half way full!

"Works very well, BUT I purchase the bigger bottle just to find out it was half way full. Definitely makes me feel some type of way. There is a china version that is just as good, that comes full to the rim and is a fraction of the price and that’s what I will be purchasing next time."

Q&A

I use the uv resin to coat my saltwater water fishing lures. I cure with 100w 365 NM uv lights. I use 3 coats of the resin. Would you recommend the best process for me to follow to help ensure the best hardest protective coating. Im hoping to verify how long I should have the lures under the lights and whether I should be sanding between coats, for example. Thank you
For the most durable coating, apply 3 thin, even coats rather than thick layers. Cure each coat fully before applying the next. With a 100W 365 nm light, start with 3–5 minutes per coat, rotating the lure so all surfaces receive direct light, then give the final coat an additional 5–10 minutes. Lightly sand between coats only if the cured surface is uneven or the next coat does not bond well. Use 600–800 grit sandpaper, then remove all dust before recoating. Keep the lure and resin at room temperature, avoid moisture or contamination, and allow the finished lure to rest for 24 hours before saltwater use. Because curing time varies with distance, coating thickness, and bulb output, test one lure first and confirm the surface is hard and no longer tacky.
What brand and style light would you recommend? I was Tod a 600nM light was needed, but I can not locate anything like that.
Great question! We do offer a UV light that works well with our UV Resin, and it's a solid option for small, detailed applications. That said, we understand it may not be the perfect fit for every workflow especially in lure making, where hands-free use or larger coverage areas might be more important. If our light doesn’t quite match how you want to work, we recommend looking into a 365–405nm UV LED nail lamp or UV flood light. These provide broader, more consistent exposure and allow you to cure multiple pieces at once or keep both hands free while working. Just make sure the light is rated within that 365–405nm range for proper curing. Let us know how you plan to use it, and we’d be happy to help you find the best option for your setup! 📞 (269) 488-4000 📧 info@alumilite.com
After I dip my fishing lures into the alumi uv and cure under the 365nm-395nm LEDs, there's spots that the product didn't cover, like it separated itself in spots. Why is this? I let the paint dry about 24hrs before dipping them.
It sounds like you might be dealing with surface contamination, which is common when UV resin comes into contact with oil-based paints. The resin can sometimes repel from these surfaces. 🎨💧 A good rule of thumb is to wait until the paint has fully cured before applying any clear coating. This ensures the best adhesion and finish. If you';re in a hurry, wiping the surface down with isopropyl or denatured alcohol could help remove any oily residues. But be cautious, as this might also affect the paint';s color and finish. 🧪🔍 It';s always wise to do a little test on a scrap piece first. This way, you can see how the paint and resin interact without risking your main project. If you have any more questions or need further advice on this, we';re just a message away. Can this material be cast in a mold to produce a solid object or is it only used as a coating?
Great question indeed! 🌟 Alumi-UV is perfect for small castings, but you';re right, getting it to cure properly can be a bit tricky with thicker pieces. A neat trick is to build up your casting in layers, which can help ensure each part cures just right. 🎨🛠? For coatings, Amazing UV resin really shines and is a popular choice for a wide range of projects. It';s ideal for adding that durable, glossy finish that makes your work stand out.
